Who SHOULD NOT Book a Boudoir Session…Yet?

Timing is everything, and Holly Douglas & Co. believes in the importance of booking a boudoir session when you're truly ready to see yourself in a whole new light. So, let’s talk about that…

Who Should NOT Book a Boudoir Session…YET?

Hey there, beautiful humans! Before we dive deeper into today’s subject, let’s get one thing perfectly clear: every person deserves the life-changing, jaw-dropping moment of seeing themselves through the lens of Holly Douglas & Company’s professional boudoir photography team. It’s like seeing yourself in a fairy tale where you’re the hero, the warrior, the essence of grace and raw power all at once. But - and yes, there's a but - timing is everything. Just as you wouldn’t wear a pair of flip-flops in the snow (unless that’s your vibe, who are we to judge?), there’s an ideal moment for you to embark on this empowering voyage of self-discovery.

Now, don’t get us wrong. We’re not here to discourage or sprinkle shade on your parade. Far from it. We're here to light up your path with some real, candid talk, ensuring when you do decide to book a boudoir photoshoot, it turns out to be the love letter to yourself that you deserve. So, who should not book a boudoir session...yet? Let's get into it.

Holly Douglas, owner of Holly Douglas & Co., Nashville boudoir photographer, behind the scenes photo

1. The Self-Critical Soul on a Quest for Perfection

If you find yourself locked in battle with significant body image concerns, convinced the only way you can rock a boudoir session is by fitting into an unrealistic mold – pause. Boudoir is about celebrating YOU as you are in this moment, not about reaching some Photoshopped illusion of perfection. It's a journey of self-appreciation, not self-criticism. Work on embracing your body - every curve, every line, every mark that tells your story. When you're ready to see yourself through a lens of love rather than judgment, that's when your boudoir experience will truly be transformative.

2. The Impervious Individual Not Yet Ready to Embrace Vulnerability

Boudoir is intimacy in art form. It's about stripping down not just physically but emotionally, letting your guard down, and being raw and real in front of the camera. If the mere thought of such vulnerability sends shivers down your spine, it might be time to explore these feelings. Vulnerability is a form of bravery, and Holly Douglas & Co.’s East Nashville boudoir studio offers a safe haven to explore this. When you feel ready to let those walls come down, even just a sliver, you’ll find the boudoir experience to be incredibly freeing.

3. The Savvy Saver Still Awaiting Their Moment

Let's lean into the practical side of this for a moment. Boudoir photography is a celebration of self, capturing your essence in its most artful form. Yet, like any exquisite form of art, it comes with its own set of considerations—namely, the investment involved. A boudoir session isn’t just about snapping sexy pictures; it’s about crafting an experience that’s as luxurious and unique as you are. That said, we at Holly Douglas & Co. wholeheartedly believe that financial constraints shouldn't be the barricade that stands between you and the empowering journey of a boudoir experience.

This is precisely why we offer a range of payment options to accommodate those who are a tad more budget-conscious. Our goal is to make this transformative experience accessible, allowing you to plan and prepare in a way that aligns with your financial reality, without the stress of stretching beyond your means. It’s not about waiting until you're so well off that the price tag isn’t a concern; it’s about ensuring that engaging in this beautiful act of self-love doesn’t put you in a financial bind.

It really all boils down to preparedness and responsibility. If the idea of making payments towards a boudoir experience still feels like a financial stretch, it might be worth giving it a little more time. The last thing we want is for your boudoir session to be a source of financial stress rather than an uplifting milestone. When you’re ready to comfortably embrace the investment, knowing it celebrates you without compromising your financial well-being, you'll appreciate the value of your investment tenfold.

In the meantime, we’re here to answer any questions and help you plan for the moment when the time is right. At Holly Douglas & Co., we’re passionate about making your boudoir dream a reality, in the most financially respectful way to you.

Wrap-Up

Boudoir photography is a powerful journey of self-discovery, empowerment, and celebration. It's a high five to your soul, a testament to your journey, and a love story all rolled into one. If you find yourself nodding along to any of the points above, consider it an invitation to work on those areas. Embrace your body, open your heart to vulnerability, and plan your finances. When those stars align, your boudoir session will be ready to unfold into the empowering experience it’s meant to be, on your terms and in your time.

And remember, we're here cheering you on! At Holly Douglas & Company, we believe in the power of boudoir to transform lives, but we also believe in the importance of stepping into our studio when you're truly ready to see yourself in a whole new light. As soon as you’re ready, we'll be here with open arms, eager to celebrate you in all your glory.

Until then, keep a positive mindset, keep loving yourself, and keep moving forward. We PROMISE it will be worth the wait.

Top 12 FAQ’s About Our Boudoir Sessions

We've compiled a list of the top 12 most frequently asked questions that we are asked about our boudoir sessions to guide you through the process seamlessly.

Top 12 FAQ’s About Our Boudoir Sessions

At Holly Douglas & Co. in Nashville, TN, we understand that embarking on a boudoir experience can raise many questions. Therefore, we've compiled a list of the top 12 most frequently asked questions that we are asked about our boudoir sessions to guide you through the process seamlessly.

How early Should I Arrive at the Studio, and What If I’m Late?

Listen, Nashville traffic sucks, and we totally understand that. So, on the morning of your photoshoot, we highly recommend checking your GPS app to see what your estimated travel time will be to our studio in East Nashville and try to plan accordingly. It is always a good idea to leave a little bit early to allow for any unforeseen delays, but if you happen to arrive in our parking lot ahead of schedule, we kindly ask that you wait until your scheduled appointment time of 10:00am. to come to our door. There is no need to come any earlier, as the photographer and/or hair and makeup artist are not typically set up and prepared for early arrivals.

If you find yourself running late, please notify us as soon as possible. While we strive to accommodate, it's essential to be mindful that tardiness may impact the duration of your session. However, if you are more than 30 minutes late for your appointment, we will unfortunately have to cancel and reschedule your session.

Do you offer hair and makeup services?

Hell-to-the-YES, girl! No boudoir session is complete without a bomb, photo-ready finish. The Holly Douglas & Co. team includes some of the very best hair and makeup artists in the Nashville area to serve our clients with top level artistry.

Many of our clients tell us they barely wear makeup, and/or they have no idea how to apply makeup for the camera. If this is you, then have no fear…We are going to take great care of you and get you the makeup look that suits you and your personality best.

What Should I wear for my Boudoir Photoshoot?

We have created a beautiful and comprehensive Wardrobe Guide that should give you the 411 on how to look and feel like a bombshell for your session. Our policy is always, “When in doubt, bring it…or let us style you!” It’s not uncommon for our babes to show up with several pieces of their own lingerie. However, if you don’t feel like shopping or stressing about what to wear, we will be more than happy to style you from our studio’s amazing, size-inclusive Client Closet! From there, we’ll hang up all your chosen wardrobe options, including the pieces you’ve brought, and discuss which ones will flatter you most. Feel free to leave tags on in case you’d like to return the ones you didn’t end up shooting in!

For our booked clients we also have another guide that will instruct you on where to shop! We know the world of lingerie can be overwhelming, so we do our very best to take as much stress off of you as possible. It gives you direct links to all of our favorite lingerie retailers, thier price points, and what we love about them.

What if I can’t look like the other women in your Portfolio?

We’ll let you in on a little secret…all the women on our website believed they couldn’t look like the other women on our website, either! Crazy, right? Because here you see them being so fierce and so confident, but we can assure you that they were just as nervous and full of self-doubt as you are right now. They all showed up, put their trust in us, and let us coach them through the whole day.

There is no such thing as the perfect body or age for boudoir. Our ONLY restriction is that you must be over 21 to book a session at our studio. Beyond that, no woman is ever considered too big, too small, or too old for a boudoir experience. Boudoir is for everybody. Let us show you.

Can you make me look thinner with Photoshop?

We want to help you feel beautiful NOW, just the way you are. We flatter you with hair and makeup styling, a wardrobe that compliments your figure, and amazing lighting and posing techniques to highlight your best ass-sets (see what I did there?). However, we do not believe in heavy photoshopping. Don’t get us wrong, we will gladly remove all of your bruises and pimples, but we don’t want to over-manipulate your body to make you look like someone you are not. We already live in a time where we are consumed with unrealistic bodies in the media. We want to show you that you are beautiful at this very moment.

What Will I do with Boudoir Photos, Especially if I’m Single?

We believe that a boudoir session is the best gift you can give yourself, to capture your essence as you are now. When you need a reminder of the strong, beautiful woman that you are, you will have a collection of amazing portraits to look upon. We love it when women come to us for themselves. The images we create together will boost your self-esteem and your confidence, and that should be celebrated by you! It will help you reclaim your femininity, your sexuality - two things that are often lost as we get consumed with our lives, our jobs, our families. Put that pep back in your step and reflect on the bodacious babe you are. Celebrate the body that you live in!

When Should I Book a Session if I need My Photos Back By a Specific Date?

Our studio books up 4-6 months in advance, and our printed products can take up to 8 weeks for delivery. Therefore, if you have a special occasion coming up or wish to book a holiday appointment, we recommend booking 6-8 months in advance of that date.

Can I bring someone with me to my session or image reveal?

We do not allow guests to be present for any portion of the time you spend at our studio. Our services are best delivered on a one-on-one atmosphere with your complete, undivided attention.

Are there any Photos included in the retainer Fee?

No. The retainer fee starts at $750 and is required to reserve a space on our calendar. The retainer fee includes:

  • 30 minute pre-session consultation

  • Private use of the boudoir studio

  • Professional hair and makeup application (faux lashes included)

  • Access to our Shopping and Wardrobe Styling Guide

  • Up to 90 minutes of photography with complete posing and expression coaching

  • Access to premium experience upgrades

  • 2 wardrobe changes

  • 1 hour private Image Reveal & Ordering Appointment

  • Expert magazine quality retouching on purchased images

PLEASE NOTE: ALL IMAGES ARE PURCHASED SEPARATELY FROM THE SESSION FEE AT THE REVEAL & IMAGE ORDERING APPOINTMENT.

Our image & product offerings begin at $1275 and go up from there.

How Much Should I expect to Spend at my Image Reveal & Ordering Appointment?

That’s a tough one, because it’s hard to predict how many images and/or products you’re going to want to purchase before your photoshoot. Some women order just a basic album, while others decide they want it all and invest several thousand on a variety of products. The one thing we can tell you for certain is that our minimum purchase point is $1275. So, you can expect to spend at least that much. You are, of course, welcome to upgrade from there and purchase as much as you’d like.

What Payment Plans or Financing Options are Available?

For some of our clients, the boudoir experience can be an investment that is worth careful consideration. For this reason, we have created financing options that make buying what you love a lot more accessible.

Below are programs that some of our babes are utilizing to have the luxury boudoir experience of their dreams. If you’re going to treat yourself, let us help you do it right.

How Long Should I expect to be at The Studio The day of my Boudoir Session?

In total, you should plan to spend around 4-5 hours at our luxury boudoir studio on the day of your session. That includes about an hour break in between the photoshoot and your same-day Image Reveal & Ordering Appointment. During that break, you can grab some lunch, explore the various shops in our adorable East Nashville neighborhood, or enjoy a relaxing massage (if you added that option to your boudoir experience prior to your appointment). During that time, your photographer will be going through your boudoir photos and preparing a beautiful slideshow presentation of your images. The Image Reveal & Ordering Appointment usually lasts until around 2:00 or 3:00pm, depending on how decisive you are. ;)

At Holly Douglas & Co., in Nashville, Tennessee, our mission is to provide a comfortable and empowering environment for your boudoir experience. We hope our answers to these top 12 FAQs shed some light on what to expect, and we look forward to creating stunning, timeless images that celebrate your unique beauty. 5 Questions You May Be Afraid to Ask Your Boudoir Photographer

You may have a handful of questions that you’d like to ask your boudoir photographer that are just a little on the embarrassing side. So, allow us to help you out…

5 Questions You May Be Afraid to Ask Your Boudoir Photographer

If you've recently booked a boudoir photoshoot at Holly Douglas & Co.'s luxury boudoir photography studio in Nashville, TN, then you've probably already thought of some questions to ask your boudoir photographer. That is so important, so good for you! However, you may also have a handful of questions that you'd like to ask before the photoshoot, but they're just a little embarrassing. Therefore, in today’s blog, we thought we'd help you out by preemptively answering five questions you may be afraid to ask your boudoir photographer.

What if I'm on my period the day of my boudoir session?

Surprisingly, women often do not think about asking their boudoir photographer this particular question. Then, just days before the photoshoot, you realize you're about to start your period! (It never fails, right?) Suddenly, you're full of questions, like, "What if my cramps are killing me? Can the photographer edit out bloating and breakouts? What if my tampon string shows? What if I accidentally stain the sheets or furniture at the boudoir studio?!? Eeek! I'd die!"

Believe it or not, it's actually quite common for women to be on their periods during their boudoir sessions. Sure, it's a bit of a bummer for you because you'd obviously rather NOT be on your period. However, there is absolutely no need to reschedule your session. Being on your period will not negatively affect your boudoir photos in any way!

To fully answer this question, though, we'd like to offer the following:

Our Tips and Advice About Having Your Period on the Day of Your Boudoir Session

  1. We know this is rather obvious, but you should plan to wear a tampon during your boudoir session. It's also a good idea to change into a fresh one at the start of the photoshoot. If you are worried about leakage at any point, your photographer will be more than happy to pause the session for a bathroom break. Remember, Holly Douglas & Co. are all female boudoir photographers, so there's no need to feel embarrassed. We totally empathize!

  2. You may want to take a mild pain reliever, such as ibuprofen or Midol, the morning of your boudoir session. This can help ease any menstrual cramping during your photoshoot. However, please do NOT take anything stronger, such as prescribed muscle relaxers, before your session!

  3. There's no need to worry if you have a small breakout or feel bloated on the day of your shoot. All of your purchased images will be professionally retouched. So, minor period-related issues will not be apparent in your fully edited boudoir photos.

  4. Please do not stress about whether or not your tampon string will show during the photoshoot. Listen, it happens. Your boudoir photographer is NOT going to find it shocking or "gross" if she notices a tampon string. She will either bring it to your attention so you can make an adjustment, or it can be edited out in post. It's honestly not a big deal, so no worries!

Is it better for me to wax or shave "down there" before my boudoir session?

This may be a question you've felt shy about asking your boudoir photographer, but you may also want our "expert" opinion. Truthfully, though, we do not have a preference when it comes to waxing vs. shaving your bikini area. Either will do the job just fine! However, if you typically wax, we recommend that you do it 3-5 days prior to your boudoir session, just in case you experience any irritation or redness. (We recommend Jessica Silva at Wax Nashville!)

If you prefer shaving, try to do so either the night before or the morning of your boudoir session appointment.

Our Tips and Advice for Preventing Bumps or Ingrown Hairs from Shaving:

  1. Prep the skin before shaving your bikini line by exfoliating with a wet washcloth or a scrub to remove any dead skin cells, which allows the razor blade to get closer to the skin.

  2. Use a good-quality shaving gel with moisturizing ingredients, like shea butter, olive oil, or coconut oil. Doing this will prevent the blade from abrading the skin and causing irritation.

  3. Shave in the direction of hair growth, not against it.

  4. Moisturize immediately after shaving and apply a calming serum if necessary, such as tea tree oil, which can help calm razor burn.

What if I am physically unable to do some of these boudoir poses?

You should not be afraid to ask your boudoir photographer about posing limitations. It's unrealistic to expect ALL women to be able to pose in the same way, because all bodies are different. Therefore, we promise your boudoir photographer is not going to be disappointed if you are physically unable to do a certain pose. In fact, we tailor all of our boudoir sessions specifically to each woman we photograph. So, if we ask you to get into a pose and you physically cannot do it, no worries! We have a TON of other sexy boudoir poses you can try.

Exactly how risqué will my boudoir photos be?

Of all the questions to ask your boudoir photographer, you should definitely NOT be afraid to ask this one! Whenever we get this inquiry, it usually means that either the client doesn't want her boudoir photos to look "too sexual," or she wants to do some VERY provocative boudoir poses. Those are obviously two very different expectations! This is why it is important to ask your boudoir photographer this question before you book your session.

If you are a little more reserved, you might be worried about getting naked or posing in ways that make you feel uncomfortable. While we are definitely here to help push you outside of your comfort zone a little, we are always very respectful of our clients' comfort LIMITS. So, please do not hesitate to tell your boudoir photographer if you prefer more modest boudoir poses.

On the other hand, if you want a much more risqué photoshoot, this should also be discussed before booking the session, as there are limits to what we can do within the scope of boudoir photography. Erotica, however, is a completely separate genre of photography that might be more suitable for your needs. The difference between boudoir photography and erotic photography is that boudoir poses are usually more implied or suggestive rather than explicit in their approach to nudity and sexuality. Therefore, if you want explicit photos that include crotch shots and sex toys, for example, that would be considered erotica.

Holly Douglas & Co. is proud to offer erotic photography services; however, these sessions require a special consultation and are priced differently than a typical boudoir photoshoot. Please contact us for more details if this type of photoshoot interests you.

I have never liked any photos of myself. What if I don't like my boudoir photos and I offend my boudoir photographer?

This is something you definitely do not need to worry about. In fact, whenever a woman tells us that she has never liked photos of herself, our only thought is, "Challenge accepted!"

Plus size, curvy woman, mirror pose, Holly Douglas & Co. boudoir studio, Nashville, TN

We are confident you're going to love your boudoir images because, well, we are excellent at what we do! (What can we say?) Our experienced female boudoir photographers are experts at knowing the best lighting, angles, and boudoir poses that are going to be the most flattering for YOUR body type. Our number one goal is for you to look your absolute best in your boudoir photos!

Furthermore, a boudoir photoshoot is actually a LOT more fun than many women expect when they first book their sessions! So, no need to worry about looking scared or tense in your photos. The majority of women arrive at our studios feeling nervous about what they're about to do. However, as you're being pampered with hair and makeup and have the opportunity to chat with your photographer, those nerves will start to subside. Then, as soon as you slip into that first boudoir outfit, you'll be surprised by how sexy you actually start to feel. And that's when the fun REALLY begins!

During the photoshoot, you can expect to hear good music pumping, lots of laughing, and your boudoir photographer will be your personal hype girl the entire time! In other words, it's hard to stay nervous when you're experiencing such an uplifting confidence boost during your photoshoot!

Conclusion

Now that we've answered five questions you may have been afraid to ask your boudoir photographer, we hope you're feeling even more excited about your upcoming boudoir session! Furthermore, you really shouldn't be afraid to ask your boudoir photographer ANY questions. We want you to feel 100% comfortable and know exactly what to expect from your boudoir experience with Holly Douglas & Co. in Nashville, Tennessee. So, please…ask away!

How to Feel Confident in Your Skin Before Your Boudoir Session

Holly Douglas & Co. share some helpful tips for how to feel confident in your skin before your boudoir session.

How to Feel Confident in Your Skin Before Your Boudoir Session

When you book a boudoir session with Holly Douglas & Co. in Nashville, Tennessee, you're not just booking our studio to take your photos. You're booking an amazing experience that will help you feel confident, beautiful, and empowered! And while the Holly Douglas & Co. team are experts at helping you feel comfortable and look your best on the day of your photoshoot, there are a few things that you can do, as well, before the appointment to help you prepare. In this blog, we will give you some tips on how to feel confident in your skin before your boudoir session.

Exfoliate a few days before your Boudoir session

Exfoliating your skin a few days before your boudoir session will help eliminate any dead skin cells and give us a nice, smooth canvas to work with. You can use a sugar scrub or an exfoliating cleanser; just make sure you are gentle, so you don't irritate your skin.

Removing the dead skin will also help your makeup look better and last longer, so it's definitely worth the extra bit of preparation!

Moisturize as much as possible

Moisturizing your face and body will help to keep your skin hydrated and looking its best. Be sure to use a moisturizer that doesn't have any fragrances or artificial ingredients that could irritate your skin.

Drink plenty of water

Your skin is a reflection of your overall health, so it's important to stay well-hydrated. This will help keep your skin looking plump and radiant, which is always a plus when you're having a boudoir session!

Avoid sun exposure

Because you’re going to be showing a good amount of skin in your boudoir photos, maintaining a smooth, even skin tone always ideal. Therefore, you’ll definitely want to try to avoid getting a sunburn or harsh tan lines before your boudoir session. If you're going to be outside, remember to wear (and re-apply) sunscreen or cover up as much as possible.

No negative self-talk

Boudoir is about celebrating who you are today, and you are beautiful! Period. The more you remind yourself of that fact, the more you will believe it. So, ban any negative self-talk from your mind and your vocabulary and focus on the positive from now on!

Breathe deeply or meditate

In the days leading up to your boudoir session, take some time each day to calm your mind and relax. This is the perfect time to practice positive affirmations, as discussed above, and visualize yourself having a fun and empowering boudoir photoshoot! Meditating prior to your appointment will help you feel more confident in yourself and your body, making it easier to get out of your head and fully enjoy the boudoir experience on the day of your session.

Don't worry about your hair and makeup

Holly Douglas & Co. works with only the BEST professional hair and makeup artists in Nashville. Their job is to make sure you look your best by enhancing your natural beauty. Our team is fully trained in the art of hair styling and makeup application and have helped hundreds of our boudoir clients look gorgeous in their photographs! So, just relax and get ready to enjoy some much-deserved pampering on the day of your session.

Conclusion

Now that we’ve shared some tips on how to feel confident in your skin before your boudoir session, we hope you are feeling even more excited about your upcoming boudoir photoshoot with Holly Douglas & Co. in Nashville! As long as you remember to exfoliate, moisturize, drink plenty of water, avoid sun exposure, practice positive affirmations through meditation, and trust our professional hair and makeup artists, you are sure to have an amazing boudoir experience and love the photos we create together!
